0024: Fervor Friday With Jazmine Duke Founder, jD Bath Co.

From the meaning of her name,
From the beauty of her look,
From the strength of her voice,
A great role, she always plays.

Gender, reveals her strength,
Her strength, builds her path,
Her beliefs, define her abilities,
For inner self speaks of her capabilities.

In patience, she builds her base,
In confidence, she voices up loud,
In hard work, she channels every opportunity,
Structuring her future, honouring her society.

As a daughter, she humbly grows,
As a wife, she beautifully raises,
As a mother, she proudly engages,
And as a leader, she passionately leads.

A woman of dreams, herself she calls,
A woman of strategies, herself she praises,
A woman of visions, herself she describes,
A woman of implications, herself she indicates.

Who Jazmine Duke?

I find it challenging, if not impossible, to encompass myself and my mission in a neatly wrapped statement that appropriately captures my whole human.

Someone once described me as an enigmatic female power broker. I felt like that captured me. Not because I am mysterious or hard to understand, but because I have an array of passions to which I dedicate my time and energy, and each is focused on encouraging the female mind, body, and spirit to flourish.

The common thread in my passions is my belief to the very core of my being that women are powerful and deserving of more than we are often given.

Simply put, I am an author, the owner of jD Organic Bath Co., and a woman’s woman - my life’s work will be giving women better; better products, better support, more opportunity to win personally, and professionally.

- Moreover, at this moment, how do you spend your days?

These days, I mostly work and love, love and work. The majority of my time is spent working - in my life creating and executing on my creations is my passion. That is what I love to do. So, that is what consumes most of my time. When I am not working, I am travelling and enjoying time with friends and family. However, as much as I can bring people I love and my work together I do. Most of the people close to me know that time to work is a part of spending time with me.

In Atlanta, where I reside when I am not on the road, I am part of a community called The Gathering Spot. The Gathering Spotis a membership club where I combine working and social with a community of like-minded people - being part of this space has really helped me be less isolated as an entrepreneur. It has shown me a community where work and social can co-exist successfully.

How would you define yourself and what purpose inspires you?

I am a woman’s woman. What I mean by that is my life is led by a pro-woman agenda. If you

take my products at jD Bath Co. as an example, every product that I make is truly non-toxic and

designed for humans with vaginas.

Women are marketed to at an astonishing rate yet our ability to find non-toxic products that were

created with our bodies in mind is terribly difficult - most of the marketed ‘for women’ products

aren’t much more than pink packaging. There is no true care placed on our specific needs.

The word ‘woman’ is certainly not synonymous with ‘humans with vaginas’. Yet, when we

examine traditional marketing tactics, that is most certainly what ‘for her’ and ’woman friendly’

is intended to mean when slapped on a product label – “this product is designed for humans with

vaginas”. I would pose that in most cases, the end product is nothing more than fancy marketing speak.

Filling this gap and making products that are committed to doing good for women is what

inspires me and keeps me motivated to keep working.

Can you tell us a little about your upbringings?

I count myself as very lucky to have parents and family who have shown me an incredible amount of love and support.

In my book, I’m Black and I Have a Dad, I talk about what it was like to grow up with a single Black father in the Minnesota suburbs. My dad was pretty much always on a mission to create, whether it was building an indoor swimming pool in our home, owning real estate or working as a corporate executive, he was always on the move. Being with him one on one, I learned how to continually be creating. It is not surprising that in my adult life I now own multiple businesses and am always taking on new ventures.

I tease in the book about how my entire life my dad has asked me: ‘what’s your plan?’ Because of this constant question, I now ask myself internally, what is my plan? That guidance has kept me moving forward.

Goddess, you are owner of the ever so incredible jD Bath CO. Can you describe the what JD Bath Co is to us?

jD Bath Co., is about creating products that women can trust. If we look at the Bomb AF Organic Bath Bomb line specifically, I started this product line because mass market bath bombs are … well, just gross! Dyes, perfumes, preservatives, glitter!? Those are not ingredients you want soaking into your skin or near your vagina, so why are they in your bath bomb?

Bomb AF Organic Bath Bombs are handcrafted with only the best; organic, vegan, non-GMO, paraben free, no dyes or perfumes, and cruelty free. This blend is designed to nourish the body.  A long-lasting hydration for smooth, touchable, even skin. A gentle, balancing, cleanse and an oil blend that encourages vaginal wetness.

Jazmine, creating a new product by yourself is easier said than done. Could you tell us a bit about the process that led to the final product?

Developing a product is not an easy task. But, as they say, necessity is the mother of all invention, if I want to bathe in a product without a skin rash or an infection, I have to make it myself. So, I do. Now that I have made the products, it doesn’t seem that difficult – I will note that I also felt called to create these products and anytime you are called to do something, not doing it is far worse than the task of doing.

Can you please explain how the incredibly beautiful all the exquisite JD Bath products can be utilized to aid a woman find her sensuality?

One of the most amazing benefits of the Bomb AF Organic Bath Bomb line is the After Moon bath bomb, I designed this bath bomb for a post-period cleanse. The time around and after your cycle can make us feel… icky. However, this time is one of the most sensitive for our hormones, making sex and orgasm more enjoyable – you have to feel comfortable to enjoy this sensitive time. This bath bomb is a gentle cleanse for the vagina to get you back to feeling fresh and enjoying the perks of the increased hormones around this time.

All of the Bomb AF Bath Bombs are also designed with an oil blend that encourages your natural vaginal wetness. I want you to feel just as nourished when you step out of the tub as you did in the bath.

jD Bath Co is very empowering, as it offers woman a way to be the decision makers when it comes to their bodies, what would you like to say to the people that are a little more hesitant try product such as yours?

I suppose I would ask about what their reservation is - I am always open to talk about people’s hesitations with honesty and openness. I want every customer to have a truly great experience. I am happy to talk with anyone who has questions or reservations to address their specific concerns :) info@jdbathco.com

How or what inspired you to create your book?

I’m Black and I Have a Dad is about my experience as a biracial woman growing up with a single Black father in the Midwest. A story you don’t hear too often. A positive story about Black fatherhood - and we need to hear more about Black fatherhood, about Black men, about the Black family. We don’t hear positive stories enough.

What was the biggest challenge bringing this book to life?

Oh man, getting the book in a place where I wanted to share it with the world is by far the hardest part.

I believe that books write themselves through us, the book just came and the content kept coming and coming until I was ready to be done with writing a book - the content felt endless, but I knew I didn’t want to spend the next 5 years writing the book. I had to pick an end part and then analyze every word until I wanted to share it with the world - that is a truly difficult process.

Worth it, but not easy.

As a woman who multitasks life and a business, what advise could you give other woman whom have no time to create or incorporate pleasure into their lives?

Make the time. periodt. You deserve it, you need it. If I am a few minutes late because I needed a bath or an orgasm (or 3) - you’ll just have to wait. I need that to be a good human. Taking care of me has to come first.

What does sexual empowerment mean to you? Moreover, how do you believe sex educators and jD Bath Co can empower others to find their sexual authenticity?

To me sexual empowerment is being unapologetic about what you want and what brings you pleasure.

Sometimes we have desires that are not mainstream appropriate, as long as you are involved in consensual sexual engagements - embrace that, embrace what you enjoy.

Conversely, sometimes we can feel that we lack desire or are not as sexual as other people or as partners expect us to be. Being sexually empowered means embracing the level of sexual engagement that feels good for you. Sometimes that means no sexual engagement and that’s is absolutely okay too.

I believe the greatest thing we can do for others is let them know that it is okay to be exactly who they are – I walk through the world confident in my choices and I hope that makes other women feel more confident in theirs. And, honestly sometimes I have no idea what I want – that’s okay too! We are all just figuring life out.

What led you to embrace your sensuality and why is doing so important?

I have always been a sensual type of a gal. Much to my parent’s chagrin, I entered the world with this sex on a stick type vibe. They spent most of my youth protecting me and teaching me how to protect myself from unwanted harassment and encounters.

To me, embracing your sensuality is important because it is part of our whole human. We often hear a narrative specific to women about toning down or dropping your sensuality completely otherwise you are labeled with some variation of slut – my advice, F*c$ that! You are a whole human, sensuality included, be the whole you.

When you are caught up in your head or just really busy/distracted in life, how do you get back to earth (and into your body)?

I am a big advocate of orgasms. I am someone who struggles with anxiety and circular negative thoughts, I get stuck in my head a lot. To me, orgasm is a natural way to bring down anxiety and keep in touch with my body and spirit. You cannot orgasm without your mind following you on the journey, that action centers me back into my being, it can also push my body to rest which can be difficult when you are busy and stressed. I think solo orgasms on the daily are good practice for the soul.

What do you want to tell woman who are seeking to take on their own passion projects, and make them their career?

The thing about life is that whatever path you choose, it is going to be difficult. Life is hard. There is no such thing as an easy path. So, pick the fulfilling path. Pick the path that will be worth the blood, sweat, and tears to thrive during the journey.

I believe women who want to be entrepreneurs, need two core things to succeed: strength and smarts.

You need strength to be able to stand alone with your values and the belief in what you are trying to create. Because at times, you will absolutely stand alone, and you have to be strong enough to weather that. In my experience, this life comes with quite a bit of isolation – between the hours you’re working, the ideas you have that others don’t understand, and the people who are off-put by your ambition. You have to have an internal strength about you to survive entrepreneurship.

The other key thing you need is smarts. I am not talking about book smarts or degrees. You need to be able to assess people for motivations and intentions and assess situations for risks and outcomes. For women, we are often moving in industries that aren’t welcoming of us. Understanding the players and the landscape is vital. I work to know people, their motivations, and the potential outcomes to situations at all times. This sounds a bit Art of War-esque, but it’s real, stay steps ahead of your current situation. That is how you play to win.

Jazmine, thank you for sharing your time and energy with us where can the Kinktra lovers find you
